Majestic and fragile – Joachim Schmeisser’s wildlife photography is as complex as the reality before his lens. The German photographer works with African conservation agencies and trusts to portray and protect the animal kingdom. Schmeisser’s photographs of lions, rhinos, elephants, or cheetahs are not mere images but encounters with nature. Encounters that show not only the relationality of these majestic creatures but also the interdependencies of our ecosystem. Expansive skies, the soft tips of savanna grass, and the almost biblical light drenching Schmeisser’s scenes make his photography an intimate and emotional experience.
